With The Ship Recycling Regulation (SRR) ( issued on 19 May 2009) installation and use of hazardous materials on board ships are restricted. This regulation is valid starting from 31 December 2020 to all EU flag ships and non-EU flag ships calling at an EU port or anchorage.
For new building vessels it is shipyards responsibility to use non-hazardous materials on board where as it is ship owner’s responsibility to prove installation and materials on board their vessels with valid certificate.
